Experience the Evolène carnival
Between January 6, 2025, the evening of Epiphany, and Mardi Gras, March 4, 2025.
Like the Celtic peoples who lived in the Valais in the Bronze Age and their descendants, the people of Evolène perpetuate this tradition designed to scare away evil spirits, protect our villages and allow spring to arrive.
Now more festive than spiritual, the Evolène carnival is the village's biggest event of the year.
The most important day is Carnival Sunday. This year, 2025, it will be on March 2. It's the only day you can see the imposing stuffed animals parade through the streets of Evolène.
During this carnival period, Peluches, Empaillés and Maries become the masters of the village. They live, feast and move about as they please, in complete freedom and unpredictability.
